Old Orchard Shopping Center To Reopen With Social Distancing & Curb Side Pick-Up

New reopening practices will be focused on health, safety, and convenience.

As the Chicagoland area slowly reopens, there will be a stong focus on large, outdoor spaces. Up there on our list of items we've been waiting to do again – say, eating out, getting a haircut – is hitting the mall for some retail therapy. One of our favorite shopping centers north of the city, Westfield Old Ochard, is reopening on June 10th. And because we've been living in the same gray sweatsuit all of quarantine (sometimes we broke out the navy blue), we couldn't be more excited to head to the shops.

Old Orchard is implementing new practices focused on the health, safety, and convenience of all shoppers, as well as retailer and center employees. These include:

  • Increasing the frequency of cleaning measures following CDC and local health department guidelines. A focus will be on "high-touch areas" such as restrooms, play areas, dining areas and water fountains.
  • Monitoring and controlling the number of guests entering the center.
  • Implementing and enforcing policies related to social distancing, face masks and other preventative measures.
  • Providing an increased number of hand sanitizer and hand washing stations, along with protective masks and other materials to guests and employees who request them.

In addition, the center is working with select retailers to facilitate curbside pick-up and home delivery services to make it as easy as possible for customers to quickly and safely collect purchases. Shopping without the wait times? Sign us up.

Westfield is also increasing the availability of customer service representatives and ambassadors at its properties and will continue to offer its Answers on the Spot program, which provides a real-time response via text or webchat from 10am-7pm daily to answer questions about store and center hours, promotions, and other topics. The company will continue its #WestfieldCares program, aimed at helping some of the most vulnerable populations impacted by the crisis in the local community.  The program includes making monetary and in-kind donations to local organizations that serve groups such as those experiencing homelessness, economically disadvantaged families, seniors, and children along with activities thanking local first responders and medical professionals.
