Matching New Yorkers’ posh and indomitable spirit: the NYC Reserve Roastery provides a whole elevated espresso world to explore.
The super sleek Roastery sports three floors of rare coffees and innovative cocktails, multi-level pneumatic tubes transporting beans to be roasted in-house, mixologists recommending coffee and tea infused cocktails just for you—and now—a full-service patio where you can Cheers to all the excitement with espresso martini flights.
The Roastery has also rolled out its summer roster of drink specials—hellooo Pineapple Rum Floats and Cold Brew Coffee Flights—to welcome the warmer weather!
Since a visit here is not your typical PSL grab, here’s a guide for drinking in all the best this coffee mecca has to offer:
Aptly called the “Arriviamo Bar”—arriving Roastery visitors are greeted with a spectacular 60-foot mixology bar serving a lineup of cocktail-meets-coffee drinks. Each sip transports you to an island vacation right from the heart of the Meatpacking district.
We recommend a steady diet of the Pineapple Rum Floats—a heavenly combination of espresso, rum, vanilla ice cream and pineapple syrup to keep your beach state of mind.
For those looking for something a bit more refreshing and tea based, the Blush Mint Julep is a must—made with Teavana® Jade Citrus Mint Tea, Gin, Aperol, Cocchi Americano Rosa, Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup, & Strawberry +Mint Sprig.
Be it travel or drinks: the theme for this summer is flights. And we vote starting with the dark and delicious world of Cold Brew. Step up to the bar and order the fan favorite: the Cold Brew Trio Flight. This flight consists of their signature velvety Reserve Cold Brew, a small-batch and smooth Nitro Cold Brew, and their Whiskey Barrel-Aged Cold Brew. =
Their Whiskey Barrel-Aged Cold Brew is a spirit free beverage created from a combination of the revered traditions of coffee roasting and barrel-aging. After years of experimenting with the best coffee beans and barrel combinations they landed on a smooth, sweep cup with notes of chocolate, stone fruit and rich oak just like a fine wine. *Chef’s Kiss*
Brand new to the cocktail stage this year are two chilled handcrafted options! The Roastery’s sparkling drinks, each filled with fresh fruit -- Cucumber Mint Spritz, Strawberry Balsamic Spritz or Blood Orange Tea Spritz, and their Frozen Black Tea with Limonata Foam
Each spritz + frozen flavor comes with its own recommended Princi menu pick and is best enjoyed on their outdoor patio to cool down a summer day in style.
Speaking of: their full table service outdoor patio is not to be missed. Now open for safely gathering under shady umbrellas in rowdy groups of friends, coworkers, second cousins—whoever— enjoy coffee, cocktails and Princi bakery bites in their spacious dining space.
Our personal favorite for happy hour is a round of Aperol Spritz’s and a meat and cheese board for the table.
An Italian dessert staple, “Affogato'' classically refers to a scoop of vanilla cream topped or "drowned" with a shot of hot, rich espresso. The Reserve provides this delicious mix in their Classic Affogato, which pours two shots of their espresso over the locally made and loved, organic Blue Marble ice cream.
For the “shaken, not stirred” option of this, ask for the Shakerato Affogato—which is incredibly fun to say, and even better to devour.
The Roastery also serves their cold brew over the delicious Blue Marble ice cream, in their more generous and thickly blended malts and floats. On those particularly heated summer days, we recommend going for the thickest ice-cream-like-texture of the bunch: the Cold Brew Malt.
(Pst: This makes for an elevated ice cream date spot.)
Now for our top pick at the Arriviamo Bar: The Espresso Martini. What better spot to order an EM than a place known for producing world class coffee?
Made with Starbucks Reserve® Espresso, Kalak Single Malt Vodka, Barrel-Aged Vanilla Syrup, and Dark Chocolate, it's a decadent perfection with every sip. We highly recommend an espresso martini flight tasting option, which includes glasses of their Orange Cacao, Mole Spice, and Cherry Limone flavors.
(And for a particularly decadent treat, enhance the coffee flavors with their curated add-on of chocolate truffles!)
Fight those always rushed New Yorker instincts with the Reserve’s self-proclaimed “slower” way to get a coffee. At the Experience bar, a barista will prepare two types of coffee while explaining the siphon method, which includes brewing coffee by the heat of a halogen lamp.
Be warned: this produces a piping-hot 200-degree brew, which has a lighter and more floral taste to the exceptionally well-versed coffee afficionados (and a neat process to see and taste for the not-so-versed).
Whether or not the siphon method is right for you—we definitely recommend continuing one flight down to view their mini-greenhouse, complete with coffee trees from Starbucks’ Costa Rican farm! Plus, there’s a whopping 10 uni-sex bathrooms, which are well appreciated in a coffee mecca.
No NYC experience would be complete without an element of shopping. And the Starbucks Reserve Roastery Merchandise shop is a coffee lover's dream. Choose from exclusive NYC Roastery mugs and tumblers, apparel such as sweatshirts and t-shirts that pay homage to your love for coffee, brewing tools, and more gifts that are available only at the Roasteries.
And best of all: visitors can pick up a bag of hand-scooped coffee beans roasted on-site to go. Coffee Masters will help guide as you choose a specially packaged Starbucks Reserve coffee to sip in your favorite mug at home each morning.
