We rounded up what’s new and noteworthy in Chi-Town this January.

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is behind us, but that doesn't mean there isn't still plenty to do this winter in Chicago. No matter your resolutions for 2023, Chi-Town has activities to start your New Year off right, from a wellness festival to mixology classes and everything in between. We've put together a list of noteworthy activities, exhibits, new restaurants, and things to do this month, so you always have weekend (or weekday) plans!

Coming Soon: The highly-anticipated opening of Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen in River North is set to open this month. Keep an eye out for details!

Coming Soon: Fonda is a new restaurant focusing on authentic Mexican cuisine. The new spot is expected to open later this month and will be run by two chefs from small towns in Mexico, where recipes are passed down from generation to generation.

Now Open: Kyuramen, the popular Japanese ramen spot, opened its first location in Chicago, featuring steamed pork bao buns, Tokayaki octopus balls, and of course, a wide variety of ramen.

January 9: The Hot Dog Box, serving up gourmet sausages and which was recently closed, will soon reopen inside Urbanspace Washington at 15 W. Washington Street.

January 11, 18 & 25: On Wednesdays, we drink Espresso Martinis! Chalet is rumored to have the best espresso martinis in the city, and you can learn how to make them at home in this Espresso Martini Mixology class.

January 14, 21 & 28: Warm up in Wrigleyville at a Pizza and Prosecco Day Party. Your table reservation for 2-6 people includes bottomless mimosas for 2 hours for each person and one pizza for the table.

January 9, 12, 17, & 31: Speaking of pizza, you can learn how to make authentic Neopolitan pizzas and enjoy your choice of select beer or wine at this DIY Pizza & Sip class at Millennium Hall.

January 25: Starting January 25, you can play mixologist in an immersive Beauty and the Beast Cocktail experience. This event combines an escape room, a theater show, and an adventure into one unforgettable experience.

January 7: Kickstart your 2023 at the Winter Wellness Festival. Enjoy a full day of health and wellness activities from bikes and kettlebells to dance and meditation and everything in between.

January 7: There's one weekend left to enjoy Gallagher Way's Winterland before it's gone for the season!

January 19: Embrace Chicago winter and take a guided hike of the Morton Arboretum's Trails. It's surprisingly invigorating and a great way to meet new people.

January 22: Make your dog's day and take your best pal with you to the Morton Arboretum on January 22 for this month's Dog Admission Day.

January 8, 15 & 29: Create a custom candle using upcycled glass containers at this DIY Candle-Making Class. Choose from different cocktail scents such as Barrel-Aged Bourbon, Old Fashioned Cocktail, or Whiskey & Sweet Tobacco. Bonus: complimentary mimosas are included, and you can BYOB.

January 18–29: The Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival may just be the quirkiest festival you'll see all year. For 12 consecutive days, Chicago will be the puppetry capital of the world, home to more than 100 performances and events around the city.

January 21: Enjoy Northerly Island's annual Polar Adventure Days from 12 pm – 3 pm. Learn about winter animals, including Siberian huskies, raptors, and birds of prey, plus enjoy crafts, a puppet show, a campfire, hot chocolate, and more. This event is FREE and open to the public!

January 29: Chinatown's Lunar New Year Parade will feature traditional dragon and lion dancing teams, colorful floats, marching bands, and marching groups to help ring in the year of the rabbit.

January 18: Chicago is creating its first Poet Laureate program, and the public is invited to submit nominees through January 18. Find out how to nominate someone here. The Laureate will be formally appointed in Spring 2023.
