Morton Salt Building Transformed into Outdoor Concert Venue The Salt Shed

Catch the Fleet Foxes, Angel Olsen, and more this summer at a historic space overlooking the Chicago River. 🎶

by Chicago Bucket List

Chicago’s former Morton Salt building has been transformed into a new outdoor music venue: The Salt Shed. With a powerhouse lineup for August, and more performances being added soon, we predict it will be the perfect place to enjoy live entertainment and kick back in Chicago this summer.

The historic complex overlooks the Chicago River and is set to have the capabilities to host both indoor and outdoor concerts and events. This summer you can expect to see big names perform live at the venue, including the Fleet Foxes, Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, Jorja Smith, Lake Street Dive, and more.

Outdoor concerts, food pop-ups, open air markets, & more

Additional concert and event dates at the space will be added throughout the year. Owners of the Salt Shed have also teased future retail possibilities, restaurant pop-ups, open air markets, and more. They’re the people behind other popular Chicago entertainment venues such as Thalia Hall, Evanston SPACE, Beauty Bar Chicago, and Empty Bottle, among others, so we can expect big things.

However, you’ll have to wait to see what else they’re planning because the indoor section of the Salt Shed won’t be open until at least 2023.

Summer 2022 Lineup

Our favorite aspect about the community-driven venue? You can feel good while having fun because a portion of all ticket sales from the Salt Shed’s outdoor concerts will benefit the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless and Friends of the Chicago River.
