Few things are more inspiring than a good glow-up, and the new Presidio Tunnel Tops Park delivers. The 14-acre space sits atop the Presidio Parkway tunnels which replaced the dilapidated and unsightly Doyle Drive that connected San Francisco to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Designed by the same people behind New York City’s Highline, the goal for Presidio Tunnel Tops was to keep things simple and use the natural beauty of the Bay Area to create a true national park experience. Over 10,000 community members provided their input, youth organizations put in hours of volunteer work, and the city’s smallest residents–kids–were invited to test it out before it opened to the public.

Opening Day kicks off on July 17th at 10 am with live music, performances, art, and more. Dogs are welcome, and access to all of the park’s amenities are completely free! Here are a few must-see features to check out:

What To Do At Presidio Tunnel Tops Park

Campfire Circle

Surrounded by large boulders, the campfire circle offers a stunning view of the Main Post and historic Montgomery Street barracks. Up to 75 guests can sit around the gas-powered campfire while a Park Ranger gives informational talks.

Food Vendors

From lamb kabob naan wraps to crème brûlée donuts, the park will offer a variety of mobile

food vendors that operate on a rotating schedule seven days a week from 9 am to 6 pm. Find a grassy spot in Golden Gate Meadow to chow down, or head to Picnic Place for long tables and shady trees.

Art in the Park

Opening day will feature an outdoor art installation that honors the diversity and interconnectedness of the humans, land, and wildlife that have lived in this ecosystem for centuries. The imagery will highlight the stories and experiences of BIPOC communities.

Cliff Walk

A winding walkway 30 feet above Crissy Field offers breathtaking views and unique vantage points of Angel Island, Alcatraz, and The Golden Gate Bridge. Feel free to take a break on one of the sculpted driftwood benches and take it all in.

The Outpost

This innovative space is not your typical playground. The Outpost is designed to promote independence and confidence through challenging and fun activities like climbing, crawling, balancing, and swinging. Constructed of natural materials like wood, stone, and water, this playscape blends seamlessly into its surroundings.

Presidio Steps

These grassy, terraced steps connect the Cliff Walk to the Outpost below. With dramatic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, it’s the perfect spot for sitting back and enjoying an evening sunset.
