A Secret Sushi Restaurant Just Opened Beneath Grand Central

Below the bustling streets of Midtown lies Jōji, a dining oasis that feels a world away.

Famed French chef Daniel Boulud has teamed up with sushi master George Ruan to open an upscale sushi den beneath One Vanderbilt in Grand Central Station. Inspired by the sushi restaurants found in Tokyo's train halls, Jōji aims to be authentically Japanese as well as quintessentially New York.

The exclusive sushi den is tucked away in an alcove of Grand Central and feels a world away from the bustling crowds of New York. The intimate dining room is infused with authentic Japanese character, designed with a deep reverence for nature to create a refined and serene space unique from any other spot in the city.

Jōji offers a true omakase experience that includes five appetizers, 14 pieces of sushi, and one dessert, paired with fine wine and sake. The menu changes daily, and can even change for guests who choose to revisit, ensuring every experience is truly one-of-a-kind.

This hidden spot is now taking reservations for dinner Tuesday through Saturday with two seatings each night. For those unable to snag a reservation, the restaurant offers Jōji Box, a to-go window near the entrance to One Vanderbilt’s observation deck, Summit, available Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm, beginning October 14.
