Little Island is a new public park, located in Hudson River Park, where all New Yorkers and visitors can experience nature and art in a unique urban oasis on the Hudson River.
Storytelling Festival: Michael Thurber’s Gigantic Energy
Acclaimed composer, songwriter, bassist and actor Michael Thurber expresses himself through many vernaculars of music, including jazz, funk, classical and theater. For Little Island, he will be curating an eclectic evening featuring a number of artists he’s worked with over the years performing his original music as well as some classic tunes. Michael has described the program as ‘a big explosion of gigantic energy’ – and well, that’s good enough for us!
Storytelling Festival: PigPen and Friends
Called “giddily delightful” by The New York Times, Little Island Artists-In-Residence PigPen Theatre Co. presents an evening that will be part concert, part play, and always entertaining. Filled with songs, stories, and cameos from some of their favorite friends and collaborators, this show promises to be “a journey into the frontiers of undiluted imagination.” (New York Magazine)
Storytelling Festival: BFRJ Sings: The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Broadway For Racial Justice was founded in 2020 to fight for racial justice and equity by providing immediate resources, assistance, and amplification for BIPOC in the Broadway and Theatrical industry at large. Little Island is extremely proud to present BFRJ’s interpretation of The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill. Encompassing rap, R & B, gospel, and neo-soul, this five-time Grammy-winning album from 1998 has been called one of the most influential albums of all time but has never been theatricalized for the stage until now. BFRJ hopes to shift the way in which theatre amplifies the work of artists outside of the theatre industry, namely via a reimagining of the current “jukebox musical” structure. You won’t want to miss this electrifying world premiere event.
