by New York Bucket List

A true New York summer isn't complete without a few key things: catching an outdoor movie, getting a soft serve cone from Mister Softee, cooling off at the pool, and spending a day at Summer Streets. The annual car-free tradition has been going strong for 15 years, and for good reason. From food and drink vendors, artisan sellers, free workshops, and a host of recreational activities, Summer Streets is an event that shouldn't be missed. Here's everything you need to know:

NYC's Summer Streets 2023

What is Summer Streets?

Summer Streets is a car-free celebration that transforms some of the city's iconic streets into pedestrian paradises. New Yorkers can experience the city in a whole new way, free from the usual hustle and bustle of traffic, and instead filled with community events and activities from cycling and rock climbing to dancing and live music. Last year, over 500,000 people participated in the program, and this year, the event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with an additional 20 miles of car-free space and expansion into Queens, Staten Island, and Harlem.
